Residents of Abington Township and the Borough of Rockledge have approved a historic $285 million bond to build a new middle school for the Abington School District.
The May 20, 2025 vote was close, with 8,941 in favor and 8,556 opposed, making it one of the largest school construction approvals in Pennsylvania.
Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher thanked the community, highlighting the investment’s long-term value for students’ futures.
The planned school promises “future-ready” classrooms, improved accessibility, and advanced energy efficiency.
Funding will be supported by an estimated property tax increase of about $54 per month for the average homeowner, based on a median home value of $387,402.
Design kicks off in June 2025, with construction beginning in 2027, and the opening anticipated in the 2029-2030 school year.
This decision reflects an ongoing commitment to quality education and updated learning environments in the local community.
