Abington Voters Approve $285 Million Bond for New Middle School |
Community Backs Major Investment in Education Infrastructure |
In a landmark decision, residents of Abington Township and the Borough of Rockledge have approved a $285 million bond referendum to construct a new middle school within the Abington School District.
The referendum, held on May 20, 2025, passed narrowly with 8,941 votes in favor and 8,556 against, marking one of the largest voter-approved school construction projects in Pennsylvania's history.
Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher expressed gratitude to the community for their support and emphasized the significance of this investment in the district's future.
The new facility is designed to meet modern educational standards, featuring "future-ready" classrooms, enhanced accessibility, and energy-efficient systems.
According to district officials, property taxes will incrementally increase to fund the project, with the average homeowner expected to see an increase of approximately $54 per month, based on a median home value of $387,402.
The design phase is set to begin in June 2025, with construction slated to start in 2027. The new middle school is anticipated to open as early as the 2029-2030 school year.
This decision underscores the community's commitment to providing quality education and modern facilities for its students.
